Hello. My name is Kristina Potts. My life has been… a little different. I have two, amazing, grown sons. Having them when I was young was a very cool experience, because I played with them like crazy. Then, when they were older, I learned a lot and I played; I learned how to ride dirt bikes, I learned how to surf, I learned how to play roller derby. I learned that just because life doesn’t work out the way you imagined it, it can still be pretty awesome.
I was born and lived in Southern California for most of my life. I’ve always been pretty fearless, so that’s why nearly seven years ago, I took a huge leap and gave away almost everything I owned and moved, with my dog Coco, to Berlin, Germany when my brother asked me to come and work with him.
Fast forward to now and we see that, once again, life has different plans than the ones you thought you were making. While working with him for almost four years, I managed the day to day life at White Trash Fast Food, Berlin and all the while, I was the sole graphic designer for all the needs of the place. Everything in that place was beyond fast-paced – it was more like light speed ahead! Unfortunately, the company suffered some financial difficulties due to sketchy bank loans and construction issues, which led to us losing the business in January of 2017. I moved back to California June of 2018 and was working the very next week.
Creativity was never something I lacked. Ever since I was young, I would draw, sing, make up radio shows on my tape recorder with my sister, play the flute and piccolo in the school band. It’s not difficult to see why I fell into the graphic design world. It’s an ever changing world of creating cool stuff, software programs, client satisfaction, juggling personal and professional life and deadlines that creep up on you like Freddy Kreuger, only you’re not asleep. In order to succeed in the creative/advertising world, I believe you not only need to be creative, but you need a certain aptitude for learning new things – often on the fly – as well as having great critical thinking and problem solving skills, because, as you know, the printer will stop working 30 minutes before your meeting and YOU will have to figure out how to fix it, because the IT person is at lunch. You also need to be flexible – and not the yoga, bend yourself into a pretzel kind of flexible (although that is pretty cool), but the ability to change, adapt, go in a new direction – without losing your temper, or your mind – because one thing that is certain in advertising is that your clients change their minds, direction, focus… it is as inevitable as rain in Berlin. But, I believe, perhaps the most important thing you must possess is a sense of humor – this one piece of advice could change the world.
So… why should you hire me? I am a graphic designer experienced in production management and production design. I have over 20 years of working graphic art experience. I have worked in the printing industry nearly my entire career, therefore, I fully understand the print production process. I also worked for more than 12 years in busy advertising agencies near Los Angeles, California where our clients included Disney®, 20th Century Fox®, Universal® and ActiVision® to name a few, so I am completely aware the demands of the advertising industry;
- Fast-paced work environments
- Deadlines that cannot be missed
- The importance of legal and branding guidelines
- Attention to detail
- Trouble-shooting skills
- A healthy team attitude
- Self-starter
Throughout my career and have never stopped learning and have discovered that I have an exceptional aptitude when it comes to learning anything on the computer.
